The modern sculpture Idole éternelle (1898) is one of Auguste Rodin’s most famous motifs. The bronze figurine is better known as Eternal Idol. In the sculpture, Rodin skilfully combines two central aspects: unconditional love and devoted lust, which creates a moment of absolute intimacy in the sculpture of Idole éternelle. The bronze couple is equipped with a simple green marble base that deftly accentuates the contemporary statue. Idole éternelle once again represents Auguste Rodin as the founder of the contemporary sculpture and clearly blurs the boundaries between impressionism and symbolism as the leading movements of the late 19th century.

Auguste Rodin was born in Paris on 12th November 1840 and is seen as the founder of the contemporary sculpture. Some of his most famous works include The Thinker, The Kiss, and the Idole éternelle. Numerous of his works are nowadays exhibited in the Musée Rodin in Paris.
