This unusual sculpture mirrors a family of hippopotamuses in their natural habitat – the water. It is a very realistic and natural depiction of a mother protecting her child. An every day scene full of contrast – a big, strong and wild animal on the one hand and the tender and gentle love of a mother for her child on the other. This fascinating animal sculpture is signed by Milo and stands on a marble base. It is made of 100% bronze.

As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively compounded with the help of lost-wax casting.

The artist Milo is one of our closest partners. This Portuguese sculptor was born in Lisbon in 1955 and, after a few throwbacks, is now one of the most popular artists in Europe. Miguel Fernando Lopez, as the artist is actually called, is a loving husband and a father of three children. Due to his love for the city, Milo still lives in Lisbon and is a famous local hero. The hippo designed by Milo is a stunning image and a kind of realistic copy of the animal. The natural habitat of the hippo is the southern and the middle part of Africa, there the barrel-formed animals, with short limbs and a wide mouth live close to the water. The hippos belong to the endangered species because they were hunted by humans because of their skin and ivory tusks.
